Turntable Speed Troubleshooting & Drive Belt Reset Guide
For Taurus Jukebox
Update - Dec 2025
IMPORTANT NOTICE
If you notice that the turntable speed appears inaccurate after receiving your jukebox, please follow the troubleshooting steps below before requesting service or replacement.
In most cases, speed irregularities are caused by transportation protection materials or improper belt positioning during shipment. Belt-drive turntables rely on correct belt alignment to maintain stable rotation speed, and misalignment may result in visible fluctuation or incorrect speed.
⚠ WARNING
-
Disconnect the power before performing any inspection.
-
Do not touch the stylus during servicing.
-
Avoid using excessive force when removing the platter.
Step 1 — Remove Transportation Protection
After unpacking the jukebox:
-
Turn the unit over carefully.
-
Check the underside of the turntable.
-
Ensure all transportation foam inserts have been completely removed.
Remaining packing material may restrict platter movement and affect rotation.

Step 2 — Verify Speed Selector Setting
Locate the speed selector switch on the right side of the platter.
Confirm the correct position:
-
33 RPM — LP records
-
45 RPM — 7-inch records
Incorrect speed selection may cause playback speed errors.

Step 3 — Inspect Drive Belt Installation
Improper belt positioning is the most common cause of speed fluctuation in belt-drive turntables. If the belt rides too high or too low on the motor spindle, the platter may rotate too fast or too slow.
Belt Inspection Procedure
-
Remove the rubber mat from the platter.
-
Using a flat-head screwdriver, gently pry open the center retaining clip.
-
Carefully lift the platter to expose the drive belt.
Step 4 — Correctly Reinstall the Belt
When reinstalling the belt:
✔ Ensure the belt sits flat and level along the underside of the platter.
✔ Confirm the belt is properly looped around the gold motor pulley.
✔ The belt must not be twisted or angled.
✔ The belt should run along the horizontal center line of the platter base.
If the belt is installed in an incorrect position, speed instability or visible wobble may occur — this is normal behavior for belt-drive mechanisms when alignment is incorrect.

Step 5 — Reassemble and Test
-
Reinstall the platter securely.
-
Rotate the platter manually several turns to seat the belt.
-
Power on the unit.
-
Play a record and observe rotation stability.
We recommend reinstalling the belt and testing playback to confirm whether normal speed has been restored.
ℹ
Normal Operating Characteristics
Belt-drive turntables generate rotation through a rubber belt connecting the motor and platter. Over time or during transport, belts may shift position, which can temporarily affect speed accuracy until properly aligned.
Slight visual fluctuation may occur if the belt is not perfectly aligned and does not indicate a mechanical defect.
